Data acquisition systems
Custom measurement and logging systems for trials, monitoring and research: sensor interfaces, signal conditioning, acquisition hardware, and software that makes the results usable.
Inside the engineering
Separate disciplines, one delivery.
Mechanical design, electronics and embedded control are separate skills, delivered by one team. The illustration opens to show the layers, and the rest of this page explains what the service covers.

What we do
Turning a measurement requirement into hardware.
A data acquisition job starts from what has to be measured and how much you need to trust the result. The channel count comes later. Sensor choice, excitation and signal conditioning, sampling rate and resolution, synchronisation between channels, storage, and how the data is read back and interpreted are all one design problem.
We have built acquisition and logging systems for trials and monitoring, including airborne data loggers. The same approach works on the ground and under water: get the front end right, timestamp reliably, and make the recovered data easy to check.
How we work
The front end decides the data quality.
Most acquisition problems are analogue problems. Grounding, shielding, stable excitation and the conditioning ahead of the converter decide whether the numbers mean anything, and no processing afterwards can recover a measurement spoiled at the sensor.
Once there is more than one channel or more than one instrument, synchronisation and timestamps matter. How the channels line up, and how closely, goes into the specification.
Data you can recover in the field is a design requirement. We design in the storage, redundancy, behaviour on power loss, and how results are pulled off and checked at the end of a trial. A system that records perfect data and loses it at shutdown has failed.
What you get
Deliverables.
The acquisition hardware, the firmware or PC software to run it, and a description of the signal chain (sensor, excitation, conditioning, converter and storage) with the accuracy and sampling that chain achieves in practice, which is often less than the converter datasheet suggests.
Calibration and verification records are included. A measurement with no traceable basis is not a result, so we document how each channel was checked and against what.
If the data feeds an existing analysis process, we deliver it in the format that process reads, and document the file layout and timestamp convention so the results can still be read years after the trial.
