Underwater ROV and AUV engineering
Design and integration of underwater vehicles and instrumented subsea platforms (frame, pressure housings, propulsion, sealing and payload) for marine research groups, defence establishments and industry.
What we do
Whole-platform subsea engineering.
We treat an underwater vehicle as one system: frame and structure, pressure housings and seals, thruster sizing and layout, cable routing and bulkhead entries, the buoyancy and ballast budget, and the sensor payload the vehicle exists to carry.
We are also the authorised distributor for Blu-Sub subsea parts, so specifying and supplying happen together. The depth rating, seal compound or gland size agreed in design is the one that gets ordered, with no one re-reading a catalogue months later to work it out again.
How we work
Depth rating is a system property.
First we pin down the real operating conditions: depth, duration, water conditions, how the vehicle is launched and how it is recovered. The vehicle's depth rating is set by its shallowest-rated part, however deep the others can go.
We track buoyancy from the first structural decision. Frame, housings, thrusters, cables and payload all add mass and displaced volume, and a vehicle designed without that running total is the one that turns up at trials nose-down or unable to hold depth.
We pressure-test before every deployment, as well as when the vehicle is new. Seals and penetrators are tested on their own before they go into an assembly, and the assembled housing is tested with its real cables before it goes in the water.
What you get
Deliverables.
Depending on the job, anything from a specification and a matched set of parts (depth-rated housings, penetrators, thrusters and buoyancy sized for your payload) to an assembled, wet-tested vehicle with its documents.
The design package includes frame and mechanical drawings, the electrical and control layout, a cable and penetrator schedule with seal compounds named, and the buoyancy and ballast calculation with its assumptions written down, so it can be redone when the payload changes.
Test evidence comes with it: pressure tests of seals and penetrators, a test of the assembled housing with real cables, and checks of the propulsion and instruments before handover.
